Cost Per Click and Search Engine Optimization: Internet Marketing Techniques For Publisher and Author Website Owners

Your website is a selling tool . . . or is it? Your customers have to find it before it can work for you, and that’s where Search Engine Optimization comes in. Done right, SEO drives more people to your website for free. Learn how to create SEO that brings customers to your internet “door.”

Expert Derek Carlock will also share how to improve your home page so that those internet visitors linger, increasing the likelihood of a sale. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can help your publishing business grow.

Derek’s presentation will cover the essentials of today’s Internet Marketing world. Finally, you’ll understand Cost-Per-Click (CPC) and how this paid option can work for you, even if you’re a micro publisher.

Discover what you as a website owner should be doing now. If you don’t have a website, learn what you should be doing immediately. Determine how to strategically place your website on the search engines such as Google and Yahoo to help increase exposure to qualified visitors, both short term (cost per click) and long term (SEO).

ABPA member Pam Waterman, who recently heard Derek’s presentation, said, “I’ve attended probably at least three other workshops on the same topic, trying to get a handle on pros/cons/specifics and always just came away with generalities. This presentation was great!!! I have so many notes of specific tasks to try, some fast and some over time, that I can either do myself or hire out.”

Easy Ways to Prepare Your Manuscript for Editing or Layout

At 5:45, join us for our VOE presentation. Vicky will share a list of simple strategies an author or publisher can follow to speed a manuscript on its way toward publication. Among the tricks you will learn: how to deal with tables, boxed pullouts, and graphics; how to set up paragraphs; how to set heads and subheads; and what typographical conventions will help with the editing and layout processes.

Author of four books and innumerable popular and scholarly articles, Victoria Hay taught upper-division and graduate-level writing and editing at Arizona State University for ten years before founding the university’s Office for Scholarly Journals. As editor and publisher at that office, where she has been for the past five years, she manages a staff of four in preproduction work for six scholarly journals, whose subject matter ranges from developmental psychology to mathematical biosciences. She also is a co-principal in The Copyeditor’s Desk, a partnership that provides preproduction services to publishing houses and packagers and offers editorial help to authors.

Formerly an associate editor at Arizona Highways, Victoria has a doctorate in English and fifteen years of real-world editorial experience, as well as a long academic career. She specializes in assisting multilingual authors to prepare the results of their research for publication in English.
