“FOLLOW ME. FRIEND ME. CONNECT: How to Make the Language of Social Media Sell You and Your Book”

Jackie Dishner

In this presentation, Jackie Dishner, author of the new Backroads & Byways of Arizona, shares her tips on how best to use the social media networks to launch your book and keep it visible in the public eye. Come hear what she has to say if you want to learn the following:

  • How to post your book-related events on Facebook–and how to get others to share your posts with their friends
  • How much time is the right amount of time to spend on the social media networks–not as much as you think
  • How to turn your participation into a conscious choice and simplify the process
  • How collaborating with other authors can help spread the word quicker
  • How the social media networks can help you find venues that fit your niche and attract the crowds
  • How to post the right message on the right medium
  • How social media helps increase your confidence so you can promote more in person
  • How to keep the process fun
  • and much more

jackie_dishner_author.jpgJackie Dishner, a former construction magazine editor for McGraw-Hill, writes from Phoenix. She specializes in business, design, the healing arts and travel. She got her start writing about Arizona travel in 1999. That’s when her story, featuring a former Hollywood stunt man from Yuma, appeared in Arizona Highways. You can find more of her work there, as well as in AAA magazines, This Old House, Fast Company, The Writer, various trade publications, and…in several piles stacked in a closet back home–She’s been at this a while. Backroads & Byways of Arizona, released October 2009, is her first book. She attributes the more than 1,000 copies sold in the first few months after release to promotion she’s done via the social media networks. Conversing online with more than 2,500 tweeple, more than 300 Facebook friends and LinkedIn connections, Jackie also participates in 50 different LinkedIn Groups. After that, she still finds time to blog regularly for her approximately 2,000 subscribers of BIKE WITH JACKIE. On each of them, you can be sure she writes about her book.
